Create a Reset Button on Your Notebook Page?

Page recording to reset pageWe have been asked a number of times if there was a way to “reset” SMART Notebook pages after a student interacts with a page. Let’s say you want your students to take turns solving a problem but, you want the page to reset to its original state once each student or group of students completes the activity. Here is a way to use “Page Recording” to create a reset button for your Notebook page.

Step 1: Create your interactive student page.

Step 2: Now, without moving any of the objects, create a 1 second Page Recording.

Step 3: Allow the student to create his or her solution to the problem. When that student is finished with their solution, click the play button on the page recording control bar, and your page will “reset” to its original state.

Give it a try and let us know how it turns out!

Instead of clicking the play button in 10.8 I tried to push the back button to revert the page to it’s original position and all of my moving parts seemed to go back to where they were supposed to and it worked perfectly.

  2. Kristy says:

I love this reset trick and have used it often. However, at this moment it works fine on one computer running Notebook 10.7 but not on my computer running Notebook 10.8. Any suggestions?

  3. Tina says:

This feature has not worked if there were any flash items in the activity

  4. Linda Davenport says:

Thanks so much, I would think that with so many people wanting this, SMART would get on board and just add an update to the software so that the page is able to be reset.

I am also having the same issue with the infinitd cloner. Has anyone found a resolution?

I am also having the infinite cloner issue. Was there a solution?

Hi Mary, Let us look into this and get back to you. I encountered the same phenomenon. Wondering if maybe something changed in the latest driver update?

  9. Mary Kirsch says:

I tried this and the only thing that I found did not work, was when I made an infinite clone for each coin so that the students could drag the amount of money they would need. I created the movie but when I reset the infinite cloner did not stay.

with the infinte cloner issue; did you save the page right after making the objects clone infinetly, but before adding the the page recording? I saved it, opened back up, made sure it worked, and then just came back to it and the infinet cloner was gone, but when I opened a read-only version it worked just fine, then i opened a regular version of it and it still worked too. I don’t know if it just messed up for a second or what, but but I got the page recorder idea to work with the inifinte cloner, and its a worderful trick. I just hope it keeps working…

  10. Scott says:

Yes, Be sure to keep in mind that your page must be finished completely for this technique to work properly.

  11. I, too, have had text boxes disappear: this happens when text boxes are created after the movie is made. I find that one has to have the page 100% completed before making the movie clip in order to preserve all of the contents.

  12. Renee says:

I tried it and it worked.. yet some of the text boxes I had on the presentation disappeared… very strange.

  13. Mo says:

This worked great. I love it.

  14. Joe says:

Hi Bob are you on a mac or pc and what version of the Notebook are you running? I will e-mail and once the issue is resloved I will post here.
