SMART Stencils

Not only can you choose the color-fill for shapes that you make in SMART Notebook, but you can even change the color for certain pictures from the Gallery or the Internet.

If you insert a picture to your SMART Notebook lesson from the internet or from the Gallery, the only fill effect that the properties tab for that object will allow is transparency.  However, if the picture has a pastel fill and background, you can use the Image Capture and Picture Transparency tools to create the same picture with a different fill color.

For example, if you found the perfect picture of a horse but it’s in black and white and you wanted it in black and tan, you can make a stencil from the original picture, place it in front of a shape of the desired fill-color and then take a picture of the new horse.

You can use the same effect to create gradient-filled text.  Just take a picture of the text, make the letters transparent, place the picture in front of the desired background and take a picture of the new text.

It sounds like a lot of steps, but once you understand what you’re doing, it’s easy.
