As an art teacher in a NYC public school I appreciated the iconic image theme of the Teq ART calendar which I hung behind my desk in front of the classroom. In March I was doing an artist study on Picasso with my fourth grade class. They were learning about Picasso’s life and body of work. They had looked at and responded to works from several periods in the artist’s life including the Blue Period. The looking portion of the lesson over when one of the students said “Ms. Kramer look at your calendar, that’s the Blue Guitar Man!” The students were instantly excited by the image on the calendar and a teaching moment ensued. The calendar came down from the wall. We looked at the designs on each of the pages and researched the images of the original artworks on line. The children loved the idea that another artist had “played with real art and made something new.” It was such a success with the children that I plan on saving the calendar and developing a unit around it for next year.
Thanks for the moment,
Catherine Kramer
