Effectively integrate the SMART Board and SMART Notebook software into daily classroom instruction.

Certification consists of three components: Usability 101-103, Interactive Lesson Plan Development and Lesson Presentation. Throughout the process we'll introduce new instructional frameworks, as well as ask participants to reflect on their own teaching style and curriculum. Participants not only learn how to effectively integrate the SMART Board into their daily instruction, they actually use the skills they've learned to create a SMART Notebook lesson, which is presented to the class and graded by our instructors.

In addition, we also enroll all participants in our online learning community, where they can continue to collaborate with other teachers and our instructors 24 hours a day.

Usability 101

(2-hour session)
Learn basic operations that will enable you to start using your SMART Board immediately. We’ll introduce you to the SMART Notebook Software, and give you the opportunity to physically setup all necessary equipment, navigate the web, and employ applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Usability 102a

(2-hour session)
Explore the SMART Notebook software and its interactive capabilities in greater detail. Use Drawing Tools, Gallery content and links to create engaging activities on your SMART Board, and learn how to incorporate these interactive tools and templates into a SMART Notebook lesson.

Usability 102b

(2-hour session)
Discover the more advanced design tools within SMART Notebook. Learn how to integrate tables, animate objects, use the magic pen, make page recordings, create links, and much more.

Usability 103

(2-hour session)
Learn sophisticated techniques that will help you realize the full potential of the SMART Notebook software and further increase student engagement. Explore advanced software tools, such as the SMART Recorder and Video Player, and learn how to customize all settings within the software to fit your personal teaching style.

Interactive Lesson Plan Development

(2 sessions, 3 hours each)
We start by dividing the class into smaller groups, then, building on the skills learned in Usability, you’ll use SMART Notebook software to develop your own interactive lessons, filled with dynamic digital content and customized to address the specific needs of your students and curriculum.

*This is a working session, so you’ll need access to a computer with the latest version of SMART Notebook.

Presentations

(2-hour session)
Each participant presents a lesson to the class, which our instructors grade using a comprehensive scoring rubric. Exemplary lessons are then posted to our website.
