Introductory lesson to place value: This is the first math lesson of the year and therefore you should be familiar with the concepts covered the prior year.

Many different strategies will be incorporated to get students thinking critically about numbers, digits and place value.  They will be learning valuable vocabulary that will be used for the remainder of the unit.  Students will be provided with manipulatives to use at their desks (place value charts, number disks as well as base 10 blocks) will help focus students attention on number and place value.  This lesson can be broken down into a few mini lessons, extended over the week.  textbook, workbook and print outs can be utilized for extra practice.
