There are four different Labdiscs: general science, physics, biochemistry, and environmental science. Each Labdisc contains multiple sensors for specific kinds of data — things like pH, relative humidity, temperature, voltage, heart rate, turbidity, conductivity, and more. Accompanying Labdisc software allows students to aggregate, display, and analyze their data — and makes it easy and fun for students.

Habits of the Heart

  • Devise an experiment to test differences in heart rates, like when the heart is at rest versus during physical activity, or age or gender differences in heart rates
  • Formulate a hypothesis and run a heart rate experiment with the assistance of the Labdisc's heart rate sensor. The Labdisc should be programmed to account for the type and length of your experiment
  • After collecting the data from the experiment, upload the information into the Globilab software. Students should manipulate and analyze the data.
  • Have students answer post-lab questions and present their findings to their classmates.
  • To challenge students, have groups test another variable to further their understanding of the human heart rate.
