Applied Digital Skills with Google
News on December 15 2020
During a time when teachers and students are using technology more than ever, there has never been a better time to think about how we can use technology in a more focussed way.
The Applied Digital Skills website by Google is an online platform where learners of all ages can improve their digital literacy skills. Teachers can create classes on the site and share pre-made lessons for their students to complete, or even go through the lessons themselves to improve their own skills. Parents and adult learners can also use this free platform to better assist their children and/or learn marketable job skills at a time where digital literacy is more important than ever.
Let’s take a look at the site and see how we can get the most out of this valuable resource
After navigating to the home page you will be prompted to log in and choose your role: either teacher, student, learner, or parent/guardian. If you log in as a teacher, you will be able to sync with your Google Classroom or create classes on this site to then share lessons with your students.
More features and settings
Once you create or sync your classes, you can now go through the many lessons on the site and choose to add them to a particular class. You can search for lessons by grade level, digital tool, or subject area.
To do so, navigate to the Lessons tab at the top and begin exploring. The Resources tab at the top of the screen also contains valuable information such as user guides, posters, lesson plans, tutorials and more. This platform is geared toward helping learners with disparate goals and abilities and can be completed independently.
Google products are being used now more than ever for work and school and in addition there are lessons that teach other important skills like digital citizenship, financial literacy, and college and career readiness.
Explore the Applied Digital Skills website and see how it can help you accomplish your teaching goals and help build valuable skills in the classroom and community.
