How To Use Google Cast for Education to Screen Share Devices to your SMART Board

Google Cast for Education is a free app that allows teachers and students to turn their devices into wireless projectors or receivers. Using Google Cast, users can share their screen on interactive whiteboards or to other devices. Want to give it a try? Watch the video below to see how it works with a Chromebook. For those of you without Chromebooks, no worries. We’ve provided step-by-step instructions on using Google Cast for Education on Chromebooks, Windows, and iOS devices below.
How to: Windows computer:
- Go to the Chrome web store and add the Google Cast for Education extension to your browser.
- Once the extension is installed, click the cast icon in the top right-hand corner of your open browser.
- On your SMART Board go to the kapp module input and swipe up to access the menu, select “screen share.”
- Your SMART Board should now appear on your cast to list on your computer.
- If it does not appear, make sure that your device and your board are connected to the same wifi
- Restart your chrome browser or your computer
How to: Chromebook:
- Go to the Chrome web store and add the Google Cast for Education extension to your browser.
- Once the extension is installed, click the cast icon in the top right-hand corner. You can also click the status bar on the bottom right-hand corner and click “cast devices available” to see all devices available.
- On your SMART Board go to the kapp module input and swipe up to access the menu, select “screen share” select the chrome icon.
- Your SMART Board should now appear on your cast devices available list.
- If it does not appear, make sure that your device and your board are connected to the same wifi
- Restart your chrome browser or your computer.
How to: iOS Devices:
- Launch your Chrome Browser and make sure you are signed in with your G Suite for Education account.
- Click the three-dot menu in the top right-hand corner of your browser and select “cast” from the drop down list.
- On your SMART Board go to the kapp module input and swipe up to access the menu, select “screen share” select the chrome icon.
- Your SMART Board should now appear on your cast to list.
- If it does not appear, make sure that your device and your board are connected to the same wifi
- Restart your chrome browser or your computer.
To Receive a Cast to your Device:
- Download the Google Cast for Education app.
- Click Launch app when finished loading or enter Chrome://apps in your Omnibox and select the Cast app. On a Chromebook in the launcher menu, located in the bottom left-hand corner, select the Google Cast for Education app from the app list.
- When launched you will be prompted to give your device (receiver) a name if this is the first time using the app on your device.
- You are now ready to receive casts.

So what if you have windows pc but your destination board is not the ‘smart’ board make
Hi Steve! Thank you for your question. If you’re trying to cast to something other than a SMART Board you can use the last set of directions provided and turn whatever your casting to into a receiver. Feel free to reach out if you are having any issues.
