Founded at the CREATE Lab at Carnegie Mellon University in 2010, BirdBrain Technologies allows students to learn computer science and develop computational thinking skills by providing flexible and inspiring robotics products leveraging the micro:bit platform.
Students can get more out of robotics when they combine it with play and hands-on learning. Use Hummingbird to explore basic Physics concepts as robots interact with simple machines.
Hummingbird Robotics Kits
Powered by a micro:bit computer and micro:bit software, Hummingbird Robotics kits allow students to turn anything into a robot with micro:bit using craft materials and the electronic components provided.
The Hummingbird Robotics Kits allow students to design, build, and program robots using any materials, with any device, in multiple block and text-based programming languages.
The Hummingbird Kit consists of lights, motors, and sensors which allow students to build a personally meaningful robot out of any materials.
Finch Robots
The Finch robot, powered by a micro:bit computer and micro:bit software, allows students to learn computer science and coding by having them program the robots in multiple block and text based coding languages on any device.
With the Finch Robot, students can complete hands on and engaging physical computing and robotics activities by customizing their robots using the electronic components included.
Finch is currently one of the only educational robotics solutions available that supports programming in Java to support AP Computer Science classes.
Educational Resources
Hummingbird provides a variety of free resources to support educators implementing their robotics kits and Finch robots including projects, lesson plans, and building, classroom integration, and programming guides. Hummingbird also provides free learning resources for implementing their solutions into remote & hybrid learning environments.
