Teq Approved by New York State to Provide Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) via its Online Professional Development Platform and Onsite PD Sessions

October 11, 2016 – HUNTINGTON STATION, NY – Teq, the Long Island-based educational technology and PD company, has received approval from the New York State Department of Education to provide Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE).

Teachers can now maintain their NYS teaching certification with either onsite PD, or by taking courses online from Teq.

“In New York, teachers are required to have 100 hours of PD over 5 years to maintain their State certification,” said Robert-Wayne Harris, Teq’s VP of Professional Development and the former Superintendent of the Roosevelt School District on Long Island. “Teachers now have a convenient option to maintain their certification by taking our courses online, accommodating their busy schedules.”

Teq Online PD offers educators unlimited access to over 200 live and archived professional development sessions focused on the effective integration of technology into instruction. There are certification tracks on Google, Microsoft, Apple, SMART, among other topics, like online assessment, STEM, ELA, Math, Social Studies, and PBL. All of these courses and certifications are now CTLE approved.

Through Teq’s online “Instructional Support Now” feature teachers can immediately connect to a PD Specialist. They can connect via live text or video chat, they can email, or they can schedule a live video or text chat at a time convenient with their teaching schedule.

Administrative features in the platform allow school leaders to align PD content to their technology initiatives. They also have access to 12, scheduled, remote PD consultations throughout the year. Teq’s PD team is staffed with former teachers with classroom experience, each of which are instructional technology experts.

“Teq Online PD gives us the chance to support our teachers no matter where they are or what they want to learn,” said Patrick Fogarty, Director of Technology for Valley Stream 30. “It’s an innovative approach to PD that can educate and inspire educators and administrators.”

“The Teq Online PD platform has an over 90% teacher satisfaction rating across its various courses and presenters. Teachers can find technology courses relevant to their subject area and grade level,” said Teq’s CEO, Damian Scarfo. “CTLE approval from New York State validates the quality of the professional development we are providing, and will be a great benefit for our PD customers.”

In addition to New York, Teq’s PD is approved to maintain a teaching certification in Delaware, West Virginia, and Montana. Approval is pending in 11 other states. In many states, approval is granted on a district-by-district basis.

The New York CTLE approval is from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2021. Any courses taken between July 2016 and the date of the official approval on October 4th, retroactively qualify.
