Google Meet Within Google Classroom

Google Classroom has a great new feature with remote learning in mind. Now, educators can set up a Google Meet from within Google Classroom. You will no longer need to create a separate Meet and then go through the process of sharing it to your class. Let’s take a look at how to set it up in just a few easy steps.

Here’s how to set up your Google Meet within Google Classroom:

1. Go to classroom.google.com and then select the class that you want to have a Meet with.

2. Click on the settings gear in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

3. Scroll to where it says “Meet” under the “General” header and click the button that says Generate Meet link. This will create an individualized Meet link for that specific class. Decide whether you want to make the link visible or not to your students.

***We’ve tested this feature and it appears that students can use the Meet link even before you initiate a meeting. Best practice might dictate turning off the visibility of this feature and resetting the Meet link after you conclude meetings with your students.***

4. Click “Save” in the upper right hand corner.

5. Under the Stream tab, the Meet link will appear beneath the Class code. It is also visible from within the Classwork tab, and looks like a camera with the word “Meet.”

Congratulations! Your class now has a Google Meet attached to it. Now, use that link and instruct your students to do the same when you want to Meet with them.
