There aren’t a lot of people who can say that math is their favorite subject. It certainly has never been my strongest. I wanted to run and hide the moment there was any mention of math.
The reason why I despised the subject was because in my day, it was all about memorization. There was no explanation as to why an answer came about. Math required memorizing the process of solving an equation. It dealt with applying that process to every equation for each type of math. Luckily, modern day math has evolved!
Math for the modern classroom
Now, students can break down equations through a visual lens to see how numbers work together, then they can come to an answer. There is nothing better than incorporating multiple visuals and activities to keep students engaged.
How do you foster learning through this visual lens? Introducing the Ozobot Evo, a small but mighty, programmable robot designed to assist students in learning math in a fun, hands-on way.
How does Ozobot Evo work?
The Ozobot Evo detects color through block-based codes, allowing it to perform a specific task. Ozobot incorporates beginner coding skills that are valuable in the classroom. With this unstoppable tool, math can become collaborative again, and students can design and program paths for the Evo to follow.
Ozobot also builds upon soft skills, such as communication and problem-solving. This increases the interactive aspect of math, making it more exciting. If you are unfamiliar with how the Evo works, check out a few of our OTIS resources at the end to familiarize yourself with it.
Get familiar with Ozobot Classroom
How do I get started with Ozobot? Ozobot Classroom is a great place to get started for teachers. There is basic training to familiarize yourself with Evo and you can even check out pre-created lessons. You can filter lessons by grade level, topic, and there’s even the option to select color coded or block-based coding lessons.
All lessons come with activity sheets, standards alignment, procedures, and questions. You may be inspired to create your own lessons that incorporate Ozobot while teaching your math class.
A robot friend with variety!
Ozobot Evo is not going to directly teach your class math. However, what it will do is enhance your classroom with hands-on practice that will assist in students’ ability to visualize the math concepts you are teaching them.
Evo is great for teaching geometry, angles, and measurement as well as basic operational math. It’s a great way to engage kinesthetic learners and make the abstract more concrete.
If you haven’t thought about bringing in a robot to engage your students in math, give a second thought to the Ozobot Evo. A scalable STEM product that will have students learning coding as they perfect their math computational skills. After you meet this robot friend, you won’t be running away from math conversations anymore!
If you still feel unfamiliar with using this technology check out a few of our OTIS courses, Ozobot Evo Does Math!, Wizards of Ozobot, and Ozobot Basics to learn more about this wonderful tool.
