News
The “Futurama” lesson was created for middle school Math and involves the understanding of ratios or scales to complete a number of tasks designed to help students apply their knowledge. In addition, Students will research information about structures listed in the “Top 10 Construction Projects of the 20th Century.” (Download: SMART Notebook, RM Easiteach, ActivInspire, Starboard)
The following Common Core Standards are addressed:
Math 7.RP.1 Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
1. Compute unit rates associated with ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas and other quantities measured in like or different units.
Math 7.EE.3 Solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations.
3. Solve multi-step real-life and mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers in any form (whole numbers, fractions, and decimals), using tools strategically. Apply properties of operations to calculate with numbers in any form; convert between forms as appropriate; and assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies.
Math 7.G.1 Draw construct, and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationships between them.
1. Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale.
Math 7.G.6 Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, volume and surface area of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms.
